Long time no post

October 5th, 2008 by admin

Hayz… Its been a real long time since I haven’t written anything on this blog… We’ve been very busy in ther company launching the Menzi Orchard Residences project at Damilag and 95% of my time is spent on the project. (the other 5% is for office issues, if you may ask) It’s been long days and nights and finally, after the launch, I am seeing some spare time to write this post.

I haven’t uploaded pics of the project preparation yet, but we will be building the project website soon. Menzi Orchards is a really nice place, and for you who want to spend your time on a worry free weekend, you might want to visit the orchards at Damilag, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. You can feel the provincial atmosphere but in a country-style community. There’s also a view of the entire Del Monte plantation that your eyes can savor for the rest of the day. How’s that sound?

Soon I’ll be posting pics of our adventure, and a website so you can see for yourself what I mean.

Google Chrome is Here, get ready for the Browser Wars II

September 3rd, 2008 by admin

Google Chrome, released just this evening (Philippine time), is a new browser created (obviously) by Google. It is based on Mozilla Firefox and the WebKit technology currently used in Apple Safari, the open-source Konqueror, and some others. It is, in my assessment, Firefox, Safari, IE8 and Opera’s best features combined. But instead of making another chaotic combination of features, Google does what it is known for: simplicity. The browser is undeniably very easy to use even for a non-technical user. It has a feature that isolates web crashes into a single tab, meaning, when a page you are viewing is causing the system to be unstable, that tab can be closed without affecting other tabs. Tabs can be dragged and dropped to new windows. Your most visited pages appear on the new tab page, so you have nifty shortcuts without the hassle of creating them. There is a task manager where you can see how much memory is consumed by each tab. The address bar and the search bar is merged into one, so there is no confusion between them. There is an Incognito mode, where your browsing history, passwords, and others are not logged (hmm… possibilities…).  Most importantly, it has a small memory footprint and size.

My verdict: I simply fell in love with it the first time I used it. Hehe.

iPod weirdness

August 25th, 2008 by admin

Something weird happened to my iTouch lately. I was using MobileSafari in landscape mode, with the keyboard on. I logged on to meebo.com. I want to change my status to a custom one, so I selected custom on the combo selection. It then presented me with a message box. When I typed in some letters, this is what happened:

Wierd, ain’t it?

Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony: Wow, just Wow!

August 16th, 2008 by admin

Beijing opened its doors to the world at the start of the Beijing Olympics ‘08, last August 8, 2008, at 8:08 pm. What transpired in the opening ceremony simply took me away. In fact, I made this post late because I had to replay the videos over and over again. Simply amazing!

The Olympics Ring, hoisted over the air like fireflies. How on Earth did they do that?!?

The Olympics Ring, hoisted over the air like fireflies. How on Earth did they do that?!?

Beijing, and China as a whole, simply wowed the whole world with the most beautiful ceremony I’ve ever seen. From the comet landing on the National Stadium (a.k.a. Bird’s Nest), to the Ancient drums, to the super-sychronised countdown, to the grand fireworks, to the firefly-lit olympics logo, to the giant scroll (OMG, total amazement and bow to China technology), the dancing painters, the dancing typefaces (love it), a lot more in between, and of course, the torch relay and the lighting of the cauldron which simply made me nosebleed; I was simply awe-struck. My officemate told me, and I agree, that if he was there, he would pee in his pants on amazement.

CONGRATULATIONS CHINA. The Opening Ceremony was simply a blast like no other. It brought back all my respects to the wonderful Chinese people and their diverse history.

Pacman, ang swerte mo! Nasa opening ka!!! Hehehe…

Push calendar and contacts comes to Google… unofficially

August 10th, 2008 by admin

After all the MobileMe fuzz on Apple, regarding on its unrolling and messy transition, the $99/month service is fully usable. It features my most favorite component, the Push technology for mobile devices.

Push technology, is like, having your personal or work calendar over the internet cloud. If you update a calendar entry or a contact entry on one of your  devices, it automatically “pushes” the update you made on to every single device you own which supports calendar and contact push. What’s more, is that if you have a company group/team working on a tight schedule, and a meeting schedule is changed to an earlier time, you do not need even a short notice. You just open your calendar all the time so at the very moment it is changed, you are immediately informed. Convenient, huh?

But then again I don’t have $99 dollars (PHP974) per month to spend for this (duh), and our company does not have an exchange server, so I started to look for free alternatives. Good thing, I found this link that taught me how to setup push on my iPod touch for free. Enter NuevaSync, a service that acts as an Exchange Server between Google and the iPod touch. Just a sign-up, a few CAPTCHA checks, and a few switches to toggle, then I’m ready for some real good Push sweetness…

I tried it right after I setup my device, then it just worked like magic. The moment I changed a Google Calendar entry I made on the desktop, for after 5 seconds it’s on my iPod. Vice versa, and it worked! I made changes to my Gmail contacts, and about 8 seconds I got the change on my iPod! It’s really impressive and useful. If you are interested, you may like to try it.

iPhone 3G launches in the Philippines

August 6th, 2008 by admin

iPhone 3G launches in the Philippines! Finally, for gadget hungry people, the iPhone 3G will be released to our country on August 22. Can’t wait!

The currently-hot device, iPhone 3G, is going to be sold exclusively on Globe. It is available in both postpaid and prepaid plans. For prepaid customers, you pay a hefty P41,889 for the 8Gig model, and P48,889 for the 16Gig model. For the lowest plan P1,599 you pay a base P16,800 for the device. There’s also a 2-year lock on contract for the plans.

Me? nah… Probably still stick with my iTouch for now. I’m enjoying its “reborn” state (see previous post)

But if someone gives me a free prepaid iPhone 3G kit, then why not? Hehe… Manglimos kog iPhone…

The return of the iPod touch

August 4th, 2008 by admin

Yay! I’ve got my iTouch back!

Yeah, I had a problem with my iPod touch last July. The home button just didn’t work all of a suddenly. I think it may have something to do with the switch inside, because if you press it, it wont go back up. You can still go to the home screen though, by restarting the device, or pressing the home button really, really hard. Ain’t that a bad thing? :(
So I had to send it back to where I bought it, in CQ Lifestyle Center (sadly, there’s no Apple Store in the Philippines). They had to send it back to their Manila service center, where I had to wait for a month (yes, a month) for it to be sent back. Dang I miss my iPod so much…

And then just yesterday, CQ called me at the office, and I dropped by the store to check. There it was, still the same box I left, but now they have replaced the unit with a new one! No more dent, no more scratch, and mint condition! Anyways I read on a discussion online that Apple does replace an iPod if it is defective and still under the warranty period. Still, job well done for the guys at CQ. If ever you’re a Cagay-anon and decided to buy Apple gadgets, then CQ’s the place to be.

Anyways I’m exploring the new toy I just received. I am happy again now…
